PODCAST TAKES YOU BACK TO THE SPRING OF 1966

The new format for the podcast are a success. Jeff & Jamie's trial run as guest host of the podcast has had more hits than any other podcast on this website.This time Jeff is by himself with a musical montage on memories from the spring of 1966, the height of Batmania. Using the Airheads Radio Survey Archive as a reference, he has mixed the major hits, that have been overplayed on Oldies radio stations for years, with songs that were favorites on Top 40 radio, but have rarely been heard from since 1966.

This was the era of the British Invasion, Motown & Stax soul, folk rock, garage bands, and girl groups. Emerging sounds included psychedelia, easy listening and country pop.

NEW PODCAST WITH GUEST HOST

This is a trial run for a new format for the Desdinova Super Villain of the Ozarks podcast. I've turned the hosting duties over to some friends, Jeff & Jamie. They ad libbed a stream of consciousness podcast at the last minute. They will be working out the bugs for next time. Right now give a quick listen (less than 20 minutes) as they discuss cartoonist Syd Hoff, fast food restaurants Mr. Swiss and Del Rancho, the Ripley's Believe It or Not TV shows, the Playskool McDonalds playset, Andy Warhol illustrations in a children's book and a mention of the resent blog post about Laredo. DON'T WORRY, I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE

I wanted to let everyone who reads this blog to know that I plan to continue blogging. My time this spring and summer has been taken up by several activities.

INTERNET PROVIDER:  I also found out recently that I would have to switch Internet providers. I have had the same Internet provider since the 20th century (1999), but I was told they could no longer provide service to my area.

HEALTH: There have also been some problems with my health, namely as bad back and hip. I was taking physical therapy two times a day for most of the spring and early summer. Add to that some other problems (which are of a TMI nature), I have spent most of the summer in doctor's waiting rooms.

SCUMMY CLICKBAIT SITES STEALING FROM ME: It has come to my attention that some scummy clickbait sites are swiping some of my post, sometimes word for word, for their nasty little websites. I've tried to contact these website, but to no avail. Most click bait is sleezy as a used condom.

THE POLITICIZING OF "RETRO" & "NOSTALGIA": This bothers me more than anything. I switched from being a blog that talked about news & politics to a retro pop culture blog, because the writing a news & politics blog was leading to death threats and causing problems with my job. I was mocked on the Internet when I mentioned the threats of violence. It is why I have tried not to "reveal my true identity." This has been a controversy in the Springfield and Ozarks area, but I now have proof that it was a good idea.  Randy Turner, whose blogger I had a link to on the old blog, was attacked earlier this week by some who didn't like what he had posted.

I was seeing the nature of discussing politics becoming volatile and dangerous, so I became a retro blogger. Now, I'm seeing the discussion of retro pop culture becoming to political too. I recently saw an article on the ME-TV website about Highlights Magazine and most of the comments were from idiots bashing gays, African Americans and Millennials. These comments had nothing to do with Highlights Magazine. ME-TV should remove them, but I've said the same thing about the disgusting stuff people post on videos on YouTube of old TV shows and music. I'm tired of seeing comments like, "This was back in the good old days when there were a bunch of n***ers and qu**rs on TV" or "This is what the J**s use to brainwash our children."

My reason for creating a retro blog was to give younger people information on music, movies and TV of the past. When I was younger, information on this stuff was hard to come by or in expensive books. Other adults were useless, because they wanted to get on a soapbox and lecture me about how I shouldn't be interested in pop culture. That is why I don't bash young people or Millennials. I've found, thanks to Tumblr, that Millennials are VERY interested in the older pop culture and how it connects to the current pop culture.

Now for some good news:

I'M ON TUMBLR: Tumblr is my new addiction. What I do over there is not earthshaking, I basically reblog pictures and add funny captions. If you like my sarcastic humor, then follow me on Tumblr.

CONSIDERING A DIFFERENT FORMAT TO THE PODCAST: I'm considering creating a podcast that is a discussion with a colleague/family member. We just need to right equipment.

GETTING READY FOR COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN: My favorite time of the year. There have been several times I have had ideas for a post and then thought, "No, I'll save that for Countdown To Halloween."

Trust me, I have tons of stuff, I've been wanting to post, but haven't had the time. Hopefully, I can share some of the fun stuff from the past that is cluttering up my apartment right now.

This is a revised version of the podcast I attempted to post yesterday. I apologize if you heard that mess. It didn't turn out the way I wanted and didn't even show up on the blog or Facebook right. PODCAST FUTURE IS UP IN THE AIR

In May of last year, I launched a podcast. I produced three regular podcast, three Psychedelic Limits podcast, four Halloween themed podcast and one Christmas podcast. In all, eleven podcast of music and sound bites of the past.  The future of the podcast are up in the air at the moment.

One reason is a change in music licensing issues on streaming. Some on-line radio services have ceased operation due to skyrocketing music licensing fees. So far my host, Podomatic, has not said anything about a fee. We will just have to see. The other reason has been lack of interest. It may be like much of the content I post, they may become a hot item later this year or two years from now.

COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN 2015 - WHAT TO DO THIS YEAR

It is that time of year again...the Countdown to Halloween.  I love participating in this blogging event, because I get to unleash to monster kid in me. The only draw back is that all year long I have great ideas for blog post and then I think, "I'll save that for the Countdown to Halloween." Of course, now that the Countdown to Halloween has come around, I've forgotten those ideas.

One thing for sure, I will have a podcast involving Halloween music. I'm debating whether it will feature full length songs or a mix or maybe TWO podcast this month.

Last year, I had a great idea for a post. It also took up quite a bit of time with some extra research and film viewing (not that I'm complaining). That tongue in cheek and incredibly tacky post, entitled "Horror Film Damsels Who Probably Had Accidents," over the past year, became one of the most popular post from last year's the Countdown To Halloween. I've actually found some more examples that could be used in a second post on this subject.

The most fun I had last year was making Monster Photo Fun post, which were inspired by the old Cracked magazine "For Monsters Only" issues. I made six post of these wacky creations. Unfortunately, it seems those didn't receive very many hits. That isn't going to stop me from creating some more. So apparently, people are not interested in corny captions on horror movie stills, but they like reading theories about the bodily functions of women in horror films.

I found it is easy to pull interesting photos from Pinterest and Tumblr. Of course, video and audio from YouTube is always good too.

I hope you have as much fun reading this years post as I do putting them together.



       

DESDINOVA'S PODCAST 5: ANOTHER TRIP TO THE PSYCHEDELIC LIMITS

Next podcast will not be Psychedelic Limits. However, this one is and it will flow through your brain with The First Edition, Chocolate Watch Band, Small Faces, Fever Tree, Electric Prunes, John's Children, Cream, Love and a censored version of a Monkees song. Along with appearances by Blue Boy, Barnabas Collins, Charlie Sheen, and Dr. Migilito Loveless. Also Leigh French forecast the weather, Dan Rowan forecast the future of the post office, John Newland eats mushrooms, and a little kid sees "ding dongs."
