GENE WILDER'S COMMERCIAL VOICEOVERS

Before Gene Wilder became a famous face in movies he lent his voice to voiceovers for commercials.
Here are some samples.

In this Tootsie Roll ad, Wilder appears on screen and in drag.

And, of course, we can't forget Wilder as the voice of Letterman on the Electric Company.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! I LIKE TO LIVE IN AMERICA!

HHHHEEEEEYYYYYY YYYOOOOOOOUUUUUU GGGGUUUUUYYYYSSSS!!!!! HAVE A HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!! The Fourth of July pinup above is Rita Moreno of The Electric Company and West Side Story. One of the songs she sang in West Side Story was "America." It was covered by the British prog rock band The Nice in the late 60s, as an instrumental. The keyboardist with that group was Keith Emerson. Here is video of him preforming it with Paul Schaffer on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1986.

R.I.P JOAN RIVERS

Remember "The Adventures of Letterman" cartoons on The Electric Company? The narrator was Joan Rivers, who passed away yesterday (Letterman's voice is Gene Wilder and Spellbinder's voice is Zero Mostell).

Also, she was part of a folk comedy trio called Jim, Jake and Joan. Here is a short clip from a film called Once Upon a Coffee House. The guy with the glasses is Jake Homes, who wrote such commercial jingles as "Be a Pepper" for Dr. Pepper, "Be All That You Can Be" for the U.S Army, "Raise You Hand If You're Sure" for Sure Deodorant and, won a lawsuit against Led Zeppelin for swiping his song "Dazed and Confused."

The Electric Company - The Plumber and the Parrot Cartoon

I recently purchased a DVD of The Electric Company to show my three year old great-nephew. He didn't pay much attention to it, but it was a trip back to my childhood for me. One of the things that I had sort of forgotten about was the catchphrase "It's the plumber. He's come to fix the sink." This cartoon appeared in the pilot and this is what started it all with that line.
